As a wellness coach, registered holistic nutritionist and founder of Ideally Natural, natural living is an ideal I strive towards daily. Some days are better than others and it is a continual work in progress.
As a wife and mother, I decided a several years ago to steer my family towards a more natural way of living. As I did research into chemicals added to food, household and everyday body products I became horrified with what substances we were ingesting, breathing and absorbing!
Learning about the levels of chemicals in tap water, antibiotics provided to livestock and number of pesticides in fruits & vegetables were just some of the many surprises that led me to the realisation that I needed to change things for our family…and quickly!
Time for Change….
This first, significant change was to learn about health and nutrition in a formal setting, which I did by enrolling with the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and successfully graduated as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN).
I also started to make changes in our daily lives (not always appreciated by the smaller ones in our family). For example, we:
- no longer ate fast-food once or twice a week
- permanently removed boxed macaroni, cookies and other processed treats from our pantry,
- started buying fresh, organic fresh food that was in season,
- replaced petrochemical-laden body products with home-made products (where possible) and
- replaced abrasive, toxic cleaning products in favour of natural (including home-made) cleaning products.
I don’t have any huge aspirations that our changing habits would help better the world or improve the environment (although these are beneficial side effects from more natural living). My decision to make changes was born completely out of fear, fear for my family’s health, longevity and well-being in this continually, industrialising world.
As I progress in my journey of natural living I have gained some knowledge along the way I want to share with others in the hope that others will share what they have learned with me.
Natural living is a journey, it is Ideally Natural as I want to strive for that ideal but it is not always so easy to reach, I love chocolate and wine for a start….
I want this site to be a forum to share ideas and help spread the knowledge about how easy it is to start living a more natural way of life, baby steps along the way, simple changes can make significant differences!
